1) Intro - Along with the 25 pound dumbbells that I own, I also own a far more expensive, but well-worth the cost, pair of 50 pound adjustable dumbbells. Don't worry, I will not discriminate against the other dumbbells, and over-exaggerate the Classic 50 Powerblock dumbbells that I own. Instead, I want to hook you up with an unbiased comparison and review of the adjustable dumbbells listed at 50 pounds.
1a) Powerblock Classic 50 Adjustable Dumbbells -
Seeing that I own these dumbbells, I thought it would be a great idea to actually review them first. Automatically, the one major downside with these dumbbells is the price. I purchased my pair at Dicks Sporting Goods for $300.00. For me, I don't have $300.00 to just throw around, but I absolutely needed a pair of dumbbells.
Aside from the price, these dumbbells work great, and are extremely small, compared to the Bowflex Dumbbells. The thing I like about the Powerblocks is the way they set it up for changing the weight you would like to use. Unlike other dumbbells which can sometimes make changing weight amount difficult, the Powerblock dumbbells have a pin that slides completely out of the dumbbell, and then slides back into the proper amount of weight that you set. I will talk more about the Powerblock Dumbbells in my in-depth review. But for now, note that I give these dumbbells a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. 1b) Stamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell Adjustable Dumbbell Pair -
This 50 pound adjustable dumbbell set runs for $400.00. That's definitely on the pricey side, especially because this isn't a name-brand product. Still, let's give this a chance. This set features the ability to change weight amount between 10 - 50 pounds, with increments of 5 pounds.
Because the 10 pound beginning weight can kind of be a downer, I also recommend purchasing a par of 5 pound dumbbells. You may not think you need 5 pound weights. But I am a pretty strong guy, and on moves like scarecrows, I sometimes have to use 5 pound dumbbells. Aside from this slight downside, this product received two out of two positive reviews on Amazon. People did not complain of the weight amount being difficult to change - which is nice, because dumbbells like these tend to have sticking problems, while trying to adjust the weight. Overall, this seems to be a great and durable dumbbell set.
1c) Stamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell II Adjustable Dumbbell Pair -
This dumbbell is made by the same company that made dumbbell 1b. At least, I would assume so. Currently running for $251.49, this could very well be your best adjustable dumbbell option.
Like the dumbbell in 1b, this dumbbell allow for weight adjustments between 10 - 50 pounds, in 5 pound increments. Here's the awesome thing - To change the weight amount, you actually use a dial. Dials have always been way easier, and it's the reason why I really get excited about these weights. Note: There were some poor ratings on Amazon. 1 reviewer said his weights broke while he was using them. Another reviewer complained of shipping issues - damages. Maybe the weights breaking and the shipping damages are related? Regardless, 6 other customers had nice things to say about this set of adjustable dumbbells.
3) My Recommendation -
For me, I love my Powerblock Classic 50's. However, I do understand that $300.00 is a little pricey. The Stamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell II Adjustable Dumbbell Pair looks like a great system, and includes a dial mechanism to adjust the weight amount. Because of this, and because you can save money, I can say that the Stamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell II Adjustable Dumbbell Pair could be right for you. If you don't trust the shipping, head to Dicks. They may or may not have these dumbbells. If they do not, I would go with the Powerblock Classic 50's. They come with a 10-year merchant (not store) warranty. Also, be sure to see other adjustable dumbbells categorized by weight.
