90 Pound Adjustable Dumbbells - For those who are extremely serious about weightlifting, and for those who can lift extreme amounts of weight; I have gone ahead and looked for the best adjustable dumbbells weighing in at 90 pounds. Unlike the weight classes below, the 90 pound adjustable dumbbell class is really in a class of its own.
1) There Are Two 90 Adjustable Dumbbell Systems: After all of my research, I was only able to come across 2 competing adjustable dumbbells weighing in at 90 pounds. First, we have the Powerblocks; Second, we have the Bowflex. Each of these 2 companies also have competing dumbbells at 50 pounds. If you're curious, I favored the Powerblocks, due to the $100.00 lower price, compared to the Bowflex.
2) Let's Review The Two Systems: But like I said, the 90 pound adjustable dumbbell class is completely different than any other class. Let's go ahead and get to the discussion of both the Powerblock and the Bowflex, 90 pound adjustable dumbbell systems.
2a) PowerBlock Elite 90 Adjustable 5 to 90-Pounds per Dumbbell Set:
This is one of the best dumbbell systems of any weight class. The Powerblock 90lb adjustable dumbbell system features the ability to adjust weight amount in 5 pound increments, between 5 and 90 lbs. Unlike other adjustable dumbbell systems, which can make changing weight amount difficult, the Powerblock system features the ability to change weight amount with an easy slide-out, slide-in system. This slide-in, slide-out system makes changing weight amount extremely easy. Another great feature is the 10 year warranty. A 10 year warranty is unheard of, especially when you don't have to purchase it separately.
Aside from the features, the 90lb Powerblock adjustable dumbbells received awesome ratings on Amazon. Based off of 11 reviews, this system received ten 5 out of 5 star ratings, and one 4 out of 5 star rating. The individual who rated the system a 4 out of 5 stars said that users should be careful, and make sure the pin is fully inserted to avoid injury. This user also noted that the weight plates rattle. 2b) Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Single Dumbbell:
Up next, we discuss the second and final 90 pound adjustable dumbbell system, made by Bowflex. Being brand-named, you would think that these are the dumbbells you should buy, automatically. Don't be deceived. Although the Bowflex system is a really nice system, it does have many flaws. Before we discuss those flaws, these dumbbells feature the ability to change weight in increments of 5 pounds, between 10 and 90 pounds. Also, you change the weight amount with a twist of a dial, which makes changing weights extremely fast and simple. (Even easier than the Powerblock system.)
Based off of 41 customer reviews, the Bowflex Dumbbells received twenty-eight 5 out of 5 star ratings. People who gave the system a lower rating stated that they had to get used to the size and the grips. Aside from the awkwardness some perceived this dumbbell to be, almost no individuals had any major issues with this system.
3) Recommendation:
The Powerblock Adjustable Dumbbell has higher ratings, a 10 year warranty, and drops down to a minimum weight amount of 5 pounds. The Bowflex system does not. On the other hand, the Bowflex weights seem sturdier and give you the ability to change weight amount with a dial. The Powerblock system does not.
For the above reasons, I highly recommend the Powerblock 90 pound adjustable dumbbell. Ratings were higher for the Powerblocks than they were for the Bowflex dumbbells. If some injury were to take place because of using Powerblocks, I am sure they would've already been reported. Furthermore, you can't beat the 10 year warranty that the Powerblock dumbbells have to offer. Also, be sure to see other adjustable dumbbells categorized by weight.
Because prices vary from site to site, I have not used price as a factor for my recommendation.
